HSE Visits in October

5th October 2018 Posted in Blogs

The message of the HSE’s #workright campaign really is quite simple – #workright so your workers Go Home Healthy, which undoubtedly is everybody’s right. They are urging businesses to do the right thing by protecting their workers’ health.

HSE Inspectors are visiting construction sites this month to see if health is being taken as seriously as safety. If you are running a small construction site, you may well receive an unannounced visit and need to ensure that you are ready.

The focus of these visits is  builders’ lungs and what control measures are in place to protect them. Breathing in dust gases, vapours and fumes at work can cause life-changing or terminal lung disease and will make existing conditions worse. 400,000 working days are lost due to work-related lung disease. Shockingly work-related lung conditions account for 12,000 deaths per year. Click here  to view the HSE’s video with further stats and information.

We urge you to read the following guidance.

It is essential that your risk assessments identify when respiratory protection is needed and that this is reflected in your method statements. Face fit testing is an absolute must and should be carried out at all times.

If you are looking for advice or assistance with developing Health and Safety Management plans or Safe Systems of work, or you require face fit testing to be carried out for your operatives, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
